About the Event

The Wood River Run 2024 is a 5k run/walk event held in memory of Christian Wood, a talented young kayaker who tragically lost his life on the James River in 2018. The race proceeds will support Friends of the James River Park, the Christian Wood Scholarship Fund, and JRPS Education Department.

The Cause

This family-friendly event aims to honor Christian's memory by expanding educational opportunities and improving the James River Park System. Friends of the James River Park is the largest nonprofit support group for the park, working to protect, expand, and enhance its facilities.

The Course

The course will take participants through scenic views of the James River Park System, including Pony Pasture Rapids. Well-behaved leashed dogs and off-road strollers are welcome, with precautions to ensure safety for all participants.
